Village Style Deer Curry

A simple, rustic deer curry: whole spices and curry leaf bloomed in oil, cubed sirloin browned in an onion and tomato masala, then simmered low until tender and finished with fried okra.

Serves2 to 3
Cook1 to 2 hr

Method

  1. Heat oil and toast the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and curry leaves until they pop.

  2. Add the onions and masala and cook until the onions are translucent. Add the ginger, garlic and turmeric.

  3. Add salt and cook down for a few minutes.

  4. Stir in the venison and brown it.

  5. Add the tomatoes and enough water to cover. Simmer 1 to 2 hours, until the meat is tender.

  6. Add the fried okra and top with cilantro.

Notes

  • Sirloin works, but any tougher cut does well here with the long simmer.
